Life Before Naturetrek

George has always had a passion for the outdoors. Growing up in the South Downs National Park, he spent much of his childhood exploring local woodlands such as Alice Holt Forest, with annual UK trips to the coastlines of Devon, Cornwall and Pembrokeshire. In his teenage years he travelled further afield to Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and Mauritius, where he had many of his most formative wildlife encounters with seals, dolphins, whales, albatross, giant tortoises and coral reef fishes. His inquisitiveness of British wildlife and nature inspired him to study environmental sciences and biology at A level, and then to complete an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology at Swansea University. During his degree he had the opportunity to study abroad in Canada for a year, during which he partook in field data collection on Great White Sharks off the Nova Scotia coast. He filled his spare time with hikes and ski trips, then concluded the year with a solo-backpacking trip from east to west coast, starting with admiring the icebergs of Newfoundland and concluding in the rainforests of the Pacific Rim national park in British Columbia. In his spare time, he is a keen amateur photographer and surfer, spending much of his time at the beach (no matter the weather!)
