Malta – would you visit?
Male Hen Harrier
The decision by the population of Malta – by the narrowest of margins – (read BBC news article) to preserve the Spring Hunting status quo was met with widespread disgust and derision by birders and conservationists across the continent. Many eminent British birders took to social media to express their intention to continue to boycott travel to the island.
Naturetrek’s General Manager, Andy Tucker, travelled to Malta in 2013 and was able to spend some time with Birdlife Malta staff, and to learn about their daily challenges in the early stages of preparation for the referendum. Birdlife Malta would warmly welcome visiting birders (of whom there are currently very few) and are keen to develop a tour in conjunction with Naturetrek, with some of the proceeds being ploughed back into Birdlife’s important work.
Would you consider joining a unique, eye-opening, educational holiday guided by passionate Birdlife Malta staff and guides, some of whom have spent a lifetime at the cutting edge of bird conservation in Europe?
