Nepal tailormade: special offers

Tiger Mountain Lodge, Pokhara

Tiger Mountain Lodge, Pokhara

Naturetrek has been sending clients to Nepal for the last 30 years. It is a country that we know like the back of our hands and, of course, we know where to find Nepal’s most iconic wildlife! This being said, we strive to revisit all of our destinations on a regular basis, to ensure that we continue to offer the best wildlife experiences for our clients. With this in mind, Naturetrek Tailormade’s Georgie Head visited Nepal in 2016 and has since created a range of special offers that feature some of our very favourite wildlife destinations. These private tours can either be booked in isolation, or in combination with each other and/or with other national parks to create your ideal wildlife holiday. Should you have any questions, or wish to enquire about a holiday, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!

Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, in the far western lowlands of Nepal, is a hidden gem and relatively unexplored compared with some of Nepal’s other parks – indeed, being so far off the beaten track, it’s possible to spend a whole day in Suklaphanta without seeing another tourist vehicle! The reserve’s vast grasslands make it the perfect habitat for Bristled and Striated Grassbirds, as well as the critically endangered Bengal Florican. Suklaphanta is also great for mammals, with Tiger being at the top of visitors’ wish-lists. Other special species include Nilgai, Golden Jackal, Swamp Deer and Hog Deer to name but a few. On Georgie’s visit to the reserve she enjoyed a memorable encounter with a Tiger – a very clear sighting (from a watchtower) at a distance of about 400 metres as the Tiger stalked through long grasses.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is another of our favourite wildlife locations and Koshi Camp is a true birders’ paradise. The camp’s grounds offer wonderful birding opportunities and many exciting species, including Siberian Rubythroat, can be seen almost daily. Jungle Owlets rest in the trees behind the camp, Blue-throated Barbets call from a bush adjacent to the kitchen and the bird hide overlooking a nearby lake attracts a host of herons, bitterns and waders. Jungle Cats visit the camp at dawn and dusk, while Fishing Cat and Gangetic Dolphin are two more of the reserve’s star species!

Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge (TMPL) is perched high on a ridge with unobstructed views of the breathtaking Annapurna Himalayan range. This scenically stunning lodge been designed with the attraction and preservation of local wildlife in mind. TMPL’s spectacular views over ‘Fish Tail’ Mountain make it the perfect place to relax and unwind. Daily walks can be taken to visit the forested hills and lakes nearby, although you won’t even need to venture out of the lodge to find Yellow-throated Marten as well as a whole host of butterfly and bird species.
