Spectacled Bear

In Peru ...
Our 18-day ‘Northern Peru’ tour in October delivered a mouthwatering selection of specialities from the Peruvian Amazon, Andes and Marañon-Tumbesian regions including Wattled Currasow, Rufous-necked Puffbird, Versicolored Barbet, Paradise Jacamar, Royal Sunangel, Long-whiskered Owlet, Ochre-fronted Antpitta, Speckled-chested Piculet, Rufous-crested Coquette, Lanceolated Monklet, Grey-breasted Mountain Toucan, Band-bellied Owl, Yellow-scarfed Tanager and the jaw-dropping Marvelous Spatuletail.

In Spain ...
Highlights on our 8-day holiday along Spain’s famous Camino de Santiago route in September included an early flock of Common Cranes flying low overhead, 400+ Griffon Vultures, a pair of Two-tailed Pashas gorging themselves on ripe figs just feet away from our group, and views of the Aragon valley, with the air full of migrating swallows and House Martins and slopes swathed in Autumn Crocus and Colchicum montanum.

In Ecuador ...
Our 9-day ‘Ecuador - Cock-of-the-rock’ holiday to Ecuador in November recorded 350+ bird species in one week! Avian highlights included Andean Condor, Rufous-bellied Seedsnipe, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Lyre-tailed Nightjar, Orange-breasted Fruiteater, Scarlet-bellied Mountain Tanager, Giant Antpitta, Toucan Barbet, Crested Quetzal and Torrent Duck to name just a few! And our group was left gasping for joy when they came across a Spectacled Bear at an altitude of 4,200 metres.

On the Isles of Scilly ...
Our 8-day September holiday to the ‘Isles of Scilly’ enjoyed weather more akin to midsummer than autumn. Against stunning backdrops of turquoise seas and perfect beaches, highlights included Greenshank, Curlew Sandpiper, Little Stint and Ruff; and for some tour members, sightings of Wryneck, Bluethroat, Barred, Wood and Yellow-browed Warblers gave a taste of a more typical Scillonian autumn. Our group also took advantage of the ideal weather to circle around the Eastern Isles where they encountered over 100 Atlantic Grey Seals offering wonderful photographic opportunities.
