Los Cardones National Park, Argentina
Argentina’s Andean North-west – Andean scenery, birds, culture & wines!
This fantastic holiday combines superb wildlife (particularly birds), stunning scenery (from cloudforest to high-altitude saltpans lined with pink flamingoes), unique Andean culture and the chance to sample some of the world’s finest wines. All this while travelling with your own private specialist naturalist/birding guide in a private vehicle.
Your tour begins in the provincial capital of Salta where you will enjoy the wildlife of the Yungas cloudforest and its many avian highlights such as Yungas Screech-owl, Tucumán (Alder) Parrot and Slender-tailed Woodstar. It then takes you into the high Andes, where the iconic Andean Condor can be seen soaring over craggy peaks. Here you can visit deserted high-altitude saltplans and soda lakes, where packed masses of flamingoes shimmer in the fresh mountain air. Lower down, the World Heritage Site of Humahuaca Canyon can be enjoyed whilst taking in the abundant birdlife. The Los Cardones National Park is another hauntingly beautiful location and the nearby towns of Payogasta and Cachi are also worthy of a visit. The Calchaqui Valley offers further outstanding birding, whilst the vineyards surrounding the town of Cafayate offer some of the best wine on the planet. Your final night is spent on the outskirts of Salta, having enjoyed the many delights of this exciting, yet relatively little-visited, region of Argentina.

Lions, Zambia, Jonas Christiansen
Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park
This 11-day holiday offers outstanding value! You’ll spend a total of eight nights in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, including five nights in the luxurious Kafunta River Lodge where you will enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. The other three nights are spent in the small and exclusive Island Bush Camp, from where you can explore the park on exciting walking safaris which offer a totally different perspective on the African bush.
South Luangwa can lay claim to being one of the finest reserves in the whole of Africa. This is Africa at its untamed and wild best, with sweeping grasslands, lush miombo forests, meandering rivers, placid ox-bow lakes and vibrant wetlands. There are high numbers of predators here such as Lion, African Wild Dog, Spotted Hyena and Leopard (South Luangwa is arguably the best place in the world to see Leopard!), plus numerous herbivores including herds of African Elephant, Plains (Crawshay’s) Zebra, Thornicroft’s Giraffe, Puku and Impala. The birdlife is equally abundant and diverse, with such species as Saddle-billed Stork, Martial Eagle, Southern Ground Hornbill, Purple-crested Turaco, Broad-tailed Paradise Whydah and the spectacular Pennant-winged Nightjar amongst the highlights. Between August and November, the banks of the Luangwa River are ablaze with colourful colonies of Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, which nest in the river’s sandy banks when water levels are low.
