About the region
Nepal is one of the most spectacular countries in the world and is home to an incredible 840 species of birds within an area the size of England and Wales!
The Royal Chitwan National Park is a World Heritage Site that protects 932 square kilometres of dry deciduous forest, tropical evergreen forest and riverine grasslands. A larger number of birds has been recorded here than in any other part of Nepal – over 500 species – due to Chitwan’s diverse habitats and tropical lowland situation.
The bird life on the forested Phulchowki Mountain (2,740 metres) is the richest in the Kathmandu Valley, and no one visit produces the same long list of bird species!

Mammals we may see in Chitwan include Indian Rhinoceros, Wild Boar, Sambar and Common Langur Monkeys. Tiger, Leopard and Sloth Bear are occasionally seen.
This tour will be led by one of Asia’s finest naturalist guides, and a Naturetrek favourite, Tika Ram Giri.
There’s a lovely array of butterflies, as well as excellent birding, in the lodge gardens at Chitwan Gaida.
Qatar was an excellent airline with great in-flight service. Tikal was a great leader and did his best to show us as many mammals and birds as possible.
Tika was an exceptional host and guide! We did an amazing Kathmandu extension to see cultural sights and others seemed interested in this add on.
The guides provided were superb. Tika's knowledge was fantastic and he was a great host at his lodge. I would highly recommend Gaida Lodge with Tika as guide. Baida at Koshi was equally good - well done Naturetrek for supplying such good guides.

All credit to Tika Ram Giri and his team. What a naturalist, guide and conservationist! We were made to feel so welcome at his lodge - part of a close-knit family while we were there. Food was good and there was plenty of it. What's more, though the temperature was in the 30's, I only saw but a couple of mosquitoes the whole trip! Sad to leave! Thoroughly recommended!
I could not fault the care and attention that I received on this holiday. At both places, great effort was made to ensure that I had food to eat. At Chitwan they found gluten free flour and experimented making flat breads for me. A truely wonderful holiday.
What a wonderful holiday!! Such a great variety of birds and mammals with the excellent guide, not only did he show us the richness of the wildlife of Chitwan but also of the culture and people of this area. Thoroughly recommended.
It's important you know what a fantastic holiday this was - Tika (tour leader) did everything he could to show us as much as possible...the variety of trips - walking/jeep/canoe/elephant - also made it more interesting.
