Thailand's many natural history attributes have made it one of the most popular Far Eastern destinations for European birders. This exciting Naturetrek tour visits Khao Yai, one of Thailand's best known national parks, and the montane forests surrounding the northern capital, Chiang Mai. Here we can hope to find many of the wintering species from Siberia which send pulses racing when they occur as vagrants in Britain; birds such as Eyebrowed Thrush, Scaly (White's) Thrush, Siberian Rubythroat, and Radde's Warbler. The exotic residents of Khao Yai's evergreen forests and grasslands include trogons, pittas, broadbills, hornbills and other characteristic birds of south-east Asia, but admixed with these are more winter visitors from the north including Thick-billed Warblers and Brown Flycatchers. As a contrast to the time spent in Thailand's magnificent forests, tour participants may wish to consider extending the holiday by a few days to visit areas of wetland in the vicinity of Bangkok. Principal amongst these is Khok Kham where the attractions include Brown-headed Gull, Black-capped Kingfisher, Red-necked and Long-toed Stints and Spoon-billed Sandpipers.

The agents in Thailand provided probably the best arrangements Ive ever had. They paid close attention to small details for example a bottle of water for everyone each morning; hot/cold drinks at regular intervals; taking care of luggage, check-ins etc. Cannot praise them enough! Also the post-tour extension was well worth the money. Would recommend it to everyone going on this trip.

The ground agents were superb, the meeting at the aiport, all transport and transfers went smoothly. The provision of a second minibus following us around to have drinks, snacks, lunches etc was very well organised and really helped the tour run smoothly.

An excellent weeks birding. I though the tour leaders were outstanding both as field birders and in their care and attention to the group. Organisation was first rate and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this trip as an intensive birding trip to people who want to get to grips with some sought after Thai birds and a reasonable budget.

I think that this is the best Naturetrek trip I have been on so far. As well as the excellent value for money, the overall quality of the accommodation and the standard of the meals was beyond praise. I found the guide completely approachable and honest and his organisation was superb. I will certainly give very serious consideration to doing this trip again in the near future. I had excellent opportunities for photography which is now my main interest and the company on the trip was very, very good.

This was my first trip with Naturetrek, and I felt it was very good value for money. The organization was impressive, with no problems with travel arrangements. The quality of the hotels, food, minibuses and drivers was very high, and despite the fairly exhausting schedule, I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the trip. The birdwatching was outstanding, with 260+ species seen, including the pre-tour extension. Kamol and his wife, Patcharee, were delightful people to spend a week with - nothing was too much trouble for them. Kamols extensive knowledge and experience of the birds, mammals and locations we visited were outstanding. There is no doubt that we could not have had anyone more qualified to be our leader in Thailand. He is exceptionally talented and was conscientious in helping us to see the birds and understand their features and behaviour.
