Darwin Alvarez is a Galapagos-based naturalist guide with a passion for nature, conservation and high-adrenaline adventures (the latter not with Naturetrek groups!). He has over 20 years of varied guiding experience specialising in the Galapagos Islands and mainland Ecuador, working on cruise ships and land- based tours involving cycling, mountain hiking, camping and cultural tourism. He is passionate about birdwatching, marine biology, free diving, geology, herpetology and animal genetics and especially enjoys the keenness, focus and enthusiasm of Naturetrek groups compared to the much more general tour groups that he often guides.

Through his career he has worked on several conservation projects in Galapagos, both at the Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre, as well as monitoring sustainable lobster fishing, monitoring and tagging sharks, and the control of invasive species in Galapagos such as quinine trees and raspberries.

Darwin has an engaging personality and is passionate about sharing his expertise and knowledge with others. In his spare time he can be found cycling, free diving, mountain climbing, volcano trekking, rafting and canyoning.
