Tom Lansley

Tom has been interested in wildlife for as long as he can remember. He started birding as a child, marking the birds he saw in guidebooks. As a young teenager, he began volunteering for the RSPB at his local reserve in Derbyshire and his hobby became a desired career. With a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Reading and a research master’s degree from the University of St Andrews, he is a keen ornithologist and conservationist. Tom has travelled extensively across five continents to see and study birds, including positions in Mexico, Honduras, Argentina, Ghana, South Africa, and the Seychelles, as well as Croatia and the UK. Some of the highlights from his travels include safaris in several African countries, mist-netting for hummingbirds in Central America, and seeing Machu Picchu in Peru, as well as seeing species like the resplendent quetzal, hoatzin and seeing manakin leks.

Now based in Scotland, Tom has been able to explore the Caledonian forests, mountains, and islands. This has developed a real passion for Scottish scenery and wildlife. The seabird colonies with terns, puffins and other auks are an incredible experience that could only be imagined growing up in the rolling hills of the Peak District. Tom loves being outside, finding and photographing wildlife, and making great friends along the way.
