Edson Sarmento
Edson is a university-trained biologist from Manaus who has visited many of the wildest parts of the Central, Southern, and Eastern Amazon during years of scientific expeditions with Dr. Marc van Roosmalen, a renowned field biologist of the Amazon.
Edson is the only professional wildlife guide in the Central Amazon who has formal scientific training and has broad field experience in seeking out rare primates, manatees, harpy eagles and other rare species. Edson has also worked on a harpy eagle conservation program in the region.
In 2018, Edson was the chief field lead for a BBC production filming rare species in the central Amazon, including pink dolphins, giant otters, and a number of primates. In addition to his scientific background, Edson is fluent in English and is easy-going and fun to travel with.
