Indika Jayatissa
Indika was born in the southern town of Ambalangoda surrounded by vast plantations of Cinnamon, tea and rubber and spent most of his time exploring these habitats. His interest in butterflies led him to start a Facebook page on the Butterflies of Sri Lanka which later catapulted him in to professional wildlife photography. Before becoming a naturalist, Indika worked as a cinnamon and spice exporter and also spent a brief time working in the hospitality industry. After his talent as a naturalist was exposed, Indika joined the Butterfly Conservation Society of Sri Lanka and assisted them with many research projects. He still coordinates and organizes field visit for University students who are conducting research. Today, Indika is an expert not only on butterflies but also of birds, mammals, dragonflies, reptiles and amphibians.
Indika is a well sought out naturalist with clients from all over the world. He has led all of the tours that Naturetrek offers to Sri Lanka, as well as some tours to India.
