Peter Rich
Peter Rich is a now a Spanish citizen, having lived in the Spanish Pyrenees for 33 years. A graduate of Bristol University (French and Spanish), living in Aragón has been a continual adventure. In former lives he had a small construction company specialised in restoration which lead him to work on many historic buildings, both private and public, including the Cathedral of Jaca. Subsequently he and his wife Melanie Hallam built, set up and ran Casa Sarasa, a guest house specialised in natural history holidays in the medieval village of Berdún. Berdún has been a Naturetrek destination since the very beginning of the company’s existence, where groups used to stay at the Painting School until its closure in 2008, since when Casa Sarasa has been the base. Peter is an enthusiastic all round naturalist, with a special predilection for moths and butterflies – a moth trap is one of the things on offer at Casa Sarasa – but he likes to combine natural history with his local knowledge of art, art history and Aragonese customs to give an in-depth experience of the region. A founding member of the Birding Aragón association he has been involved in the promotion of the Spanish Pyrenees as a nature destination since 2009. He is also a qualified mountain leader for Spain and leads history, natural history and gentle walking holidays for the inquisitive.
