With our tours to 'Italy’s Sibillini Mountains' and the 'French and Italian Alps' guaranteed to run this summer, but with a few spare places each, we asked tour leaders Philip and Sharon Thompson why they love returning each year. Here are their thoughts.
Sibillini
Sibillini lies in a quiet, stunning and somewhat overlooked part of Italy’s Le Marche region, and our midsummer holiday here offers a blend of wildlife, medieval villages, gentle birdwatching, incredibly colourful wildflower meadows and butterflies around every corner.
This unspoilt area is a haven of peace and tranquillity, with a network of paths that takes you along rivers, past stunning waterfalls and through gorges offering wonderful views of soaring peaks. Our stay in the relaxed and welcoming town of Amandola at a family-run hotel offers a chance to taste all the local delicacies of this region including fresh handmade pasta, truffles and gelato galore! Amandola is steeped in history, has amazing architecture and art, and a delightful selection of shops selling regional produce. It’s an ideal place to relax while sipping your coffee and enjoying the magical sound of Swifts calling as they soar and swirl around the old buildings. Quite simply, it oozes the charm of old Italy!
French & Italian Alps
This 2-centre holiday (split between bases in France and Italy, as the tour title suggests!), offers great scenery, snow-capped mountains, crystal clear lakes and breathtaking iconic views. Walks take us along gently contoured paths to enjoy the splendour of the Alps – through forests, ravines and across alpine meadows and cols. Anyone interested in alpine flora and alpine gardening would find great inspiration here and the wildflowers attract an abundance of butterflies, all to a natural soundtrack of village church bells, birdsong and cowbells. Our accommodation in Italy, a friendly spa hotel, has a sauna and offers a superb selection of treatments as well as an outdoor pool with stunning mountain views. Our hotel in France is situated close to a river in a picturesque village with delicious food and some excellent local wine. Suiting keen walkers, but by no means strenuous, why not join Philip and Sharon in the Alps this summer to enjoy a taste of these delightful regions?
