Young Explorers is a dynamic wildlife club based in the New Forest, founded and operated by naturalists Marcus Ward and Emily-Louise Griffin. It offers an exciting opportunity for young nature enthusiasts, aged 10–16, to explore their local environment and learn about wildlife. Throughout the year, 20 guided wildlife sessions will be run in the New Forest at weekends, providing children with the chance to learn about wildlife from expert naturalists; these sessions will include bird ringing and identification, field craft, and moth and bat recording, to name but a few! In addition, members receive a newsletter filled with useful updates, tips and nature-related news, plus a dedicated Young Explorers WhatsApp group; a safe space for connecting youngsters with like-minded peers who share a passion for wildlife and the environment.
In 2025, Naturetrek will be funding the full year’s programme of Young Explorers wildlife events, enabling them to be offered free of charge to all members of the club. These will provide a valuable opportunity for young naturalists to develop their passion for nature and the environment, learn from local experts in all aspects of natural history and its conservation, and meet and mingle with other wildlife enthusiasts.
For those of you with children and grandchildren living in the south, who have an interest in nature and might like to join some or all of these events, membership is open to all. To join the Young Explorers Wildlife Club, simply complete the club’s website membership application form.
Membership is free, and anyone with a passion for wildlife is welcome to be part of this exciting community!
