The Gower Peninsula in South Wales is rightly celebrated for its rich, varied wildlife and diverse habitats such as sandy beaches, salt marshes, cliffs, and heathlands. Designated as the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the region is home to an impressive array of flora which makes the Gower a haven for nature lovers and an important area for conservation in the UK.
 
This is a walk around the scenic coastal path and nearby areas of Rhossili Head in search of local breeding specialities. A selection of wildflowers line the path as we look for cliff dwelling species such as the iconic Red-billed Chough. This rare bird of the far west thrives on Gower along with Raven, Peregrine Falcon, Common Kestrel, Common Swift, Northern Fulmar and Northern Shag. A good variety of warblers are in the area including Dartford Warbler and Lesser Whitethroat as well Whinchat and many more commoner species. Yellowhammers breed in the hedgerows and Rock Pipit's patrol the foreshore. In the right weather conditions, Manx Shearwater, Northern Gannets, Common Guillemots and Razorbills may be offshore along with Harbour Porpoise and Grey Seals. Wildflower meadows support a rich insect diversity and should the sun be shining, a good selection of butterflies will be present including Grayling. The walk is moderate in terrain - with some cliff top path walking which requires appropriate footwear.
