Summary
Approximately 224 species of butterfly are known from Namibia and on this holiday we'll join Namibian expert naturalist and lepidopterist, Steve Braine, in search of the country's most striking species.
This special itinerary has been expertly crafted by our Namibia-based guides to encompass the best of Namibian butterfly habitats, using hand-chosen hotels and lodges as we go. We'll explore pro-Namib vegetation types, Acacia scrub and large granite inselberg, riparian woodlands, permanent rivers, swamps and floodplain areas. We shall also make an exciting excursion exploring the Waterberg, a large sandstone plateau with a sandy Kalahari habitat on top with well established Acacia scrub and Ficus woodland on the edges.
We can also happily arrange tour extensions to visit Etosha, Okonjima, and other areas of Namibia. Please do get in touch should this be of interest.

Tour Leader: Steve Braine
Steve Braine has been an avid naturalist from a very young age and has contributed invaluable data on Namibia’s natural history. During the past 40 years, he has ringed countless birds and has contributed several articles on distribution and other aspects of ornithology in popular journals and magazines. He has discovered several new butterfly species including Braine's Acraea, Braine's Zulu, Braine's Straight-line Sapphire, Mimosa Sapphire, Braine's Charaxes and Silvery Copper.
Steve spent 9 years in the Skeleton Coast Park, and two years in the eastern Caprivi Strip as a ranger/conservation official. From there, together with his family, he moved to Hobatere Lodge, a wildlife concession area on the western border of Etosha National Park. Here they operated a very successful wildlife lodge for 21 years.
Since then, he has guided many specialized tours throughout Namibia, Angola, Ghana, Uganda and Madagascar.
