Summary
With an estimated population of 500 Eurasian Lynx, Estonia is a country that can provide a realistic opportunity for mammal-seeking enthusiasts to observe this highly elusive yet enigmatic cat, the Eurasian Lynx. Lahemaa National Park in the north of Estonia will be our base for this new 8-day single-centre holiday, where we stay in the heart of the park, therefore affording us plentiful opportunities to go on spotlighting sessions in the ancient forests where this incredible feline roams. Sessions during the early morning, early evening, and through the night into the early hours will provide us with the very best chances of locating a Lynx. During the day, when the chance of a lynx encounter is much lower, we hope to find the many birds that breed here, including up to six species of woodpecker, a variety of warblers and birds of prey. We will also have one night in a hide for Brown Bears plus a unique opportunity to find the delightful Siberian Flying Squirrel! Our first morning of this superb holiday will be spent in the picturesque capital city of Tallinn, where a cultural extension is highly recommended.
- A great opportunity to find Eurasian Lynx
- Brown Bear and Racoon Dog likely
- Siberian Flying Squirrel at a known roost sight
- Breeding birds of prey include Honey-buzzard
- Vegetarian and Vegan options available throughout
- Led by in-country mammal experts
- A small group
Grading
Grade A - other than potentially long nights in search of Eurasian Lynx, this is an easy tour.
