Summary
Georgia’s varied landscapes, ranging from the sun-drenched vineyards of Kakheti to the rugged, snow-capped peaks of the Greater Caucasus in the north and the Lesser Caucasus in the south, offer a breathtaking panorama that impresses even the most seasoned wildlife travellers. The country’s stunning natural diversity, complemented by its pristine, lush subtropical region along the Black Sea, the semi-deserts in the country's east bordering Azerbaijan, and ancient forests teeming with wildlife in the centre, provides a haven for the keen naturalist.
For those with an interest in reptiles and amphibians, Georgia has well over 70 species, many of which are range restricted, and approximately 50 are possible on the itinerary. It is not only the diversity that gives the country its appeal, however; there are some fantastic, sought-after species here. For more information, please download the detailed itinerary above.

Tour Leader: Giorgi Iankoshvili
Giorgi is a visiting professor at Ilia State University and has been interested in animals since childhood, especially insects, spiders, reptiles and amphibians, because he was afraid of them and wanted to learn about them to overcome his fear.
Since then, his studies have included bachelor’s degree work on radio telemetry modelling of Goitered Gazelles, and a master’s degree on the distribution of snakes in his home-country of Georgia. He was also involved with actions for the Eastern Imperial Eagle in Kakheti Region, Georgia.
More recently he was the main coordinator of the Georgian Red List in determining the conservation status of reptiles and amphibians and coordinator of the project ‘isolation by distance vs taxonomy: the analysis of Georgia’s herpetofauna (2023-2026)’.
