Kent's Summer Wildlife

Summary

The wonderful county of Kent, blessed with ancient Beech woodlands, spectacular coastlines and the North Downs, supports a suite of desirable wildlife. During this 5-day holiday, we will go in search of all aspects of natural history, paying particular attention to the birds, butterflies and wildflowers that reside within these exceptional landscapes. Visiting a range of habitats, including sand dunes, woodlands and shingle, we aim to find a host of rare wildflowers and vast numbers of breeding birds. The rare Lizard Orchid, as well as other orchids including Man Orchid, are likely to be seen, while at the coast breeding terns, waders and Marsh Harriers should all be found at the exceptional RSPB reserve at Dungeness. As we walk the ancient woodlands, we will be on the lookout for the rare Heath Fritillary, which have numbered in the many hundreds in recent years. A diversity of other excellent wildlife will be found as we make the most of our time in the Kent countryside.
