Summary

Each year the Black Sea and surrounding land plays host to thousands of geese, and other wildfowl, that form large overwintering flocks. The numerous coastal lakes, marshy areas and winter wheat fields provide good feeding grounds for the colder months, creating a natural spectacle as the birds move between the different sites. These are globally important sites for some species, with around 70% of the Red-breasted Goose population coming here each winter.
