Summary

This 5-day tour will take us on a journey along the east coast of Scotland, exploring the best coastal birdwatching sites to be found there. We will also visit Loch Leven, which has large numbers of wildfowl and waterbirds overwintering there. Our tour will begin in Aberdeen and end in Edinburgh to maximise our time spent outside looking for and at birds.

  • Wintering coastal birds including wildfowl, waders, sea duck, gulls and divers.
  • Visit important winter birdwatching sites in east Scotland.
  • Montrose Basin where thousands of waterbirds and wildfowl gather.
  • Look out for raptors and owls such as Hen Harrier, Short-eared Owl and Merlin.
  • Stonechat, Corn Bunting, Skylark, Yellowhammer and other wintering passerine species.
  • Coastal reedbed habitat and river estuaries where Water Rail and Bearded Tit possible.
  • Led by expert naturalist guides.

Grading

Grade A/B. Easy to moderate day walks covering several miles each day.
