Summary
We’ll visit a variety of south Devon’s special habitats on this short break, including rocky headlands and lakes (‘Leys’) of the South Hams coast, as well as heathland areas which are the stronghold of Dartford Warblers and Nightjars. Spring migration should be in full flow, which can provide a few avian surprises, in addition to the region’s special resident birds, as we tour south Devon’s prime birdwatching sites. Whilst the area’s birdlife will be the principal focus of this short break, our tour leaders are accomplished all-round naturalists and participants can expect a fine selection of non-ornithological delights including newly emerged dragonflies and butterflies, colourful wild flowers and bats!
- Cetti’s Warbler & Cirl Bunting on ‘Leys’ of the South Hams coast
- Enjoy Dartmoor’s picturesque moorland, crags & forests
- Dipper, Pied Flycatcher & Redstart among many other species
- Displaying Great Crested Grebes on Slapton Ley
- Possibility of scarce migrant birds
- Look for newly emerged dragonflies & butterflies
- Varied spring flora, including several orchid species
- Greater Horseshoe Bats emerging from their daytime roost
- Visit Devon heathland in search of Dartford Warbler & Nightjar
- Chance to spend extra days in historic Exeter
- Led by an expert naturalist guide
