A day studying the red and fallow deer, as well as the fungi. Tour leader Russ Headley was excellent, knowledgeable about all aspects of nature and always to talk about what we were interested in. [Naturetrek were] Very well organised, with plenty of pre-trip info provided, very clear details of what the day entailed.

Summary
Join expert naturalist Russ Hedley for a day’s exploration of the parklands of the historic Tatton Park estate in Cheshire. At this time of year we will be on the lookout for various species of fungi; the species likely to be encountered will depend a little on the weather conditions running up to the foray, but could include Orange Birch Bolete and Artist’s Bracket. We will also take our time to follow the herds of Red Deer as they rut; the stags look at their most magnificent at this time of the year, and photographic opportunities against a backdrop of autumnal colours abound. Of course, there will be plenty of birding to enjoy during the day too, with numerous woodland species such as Nuthatch and Treecreeper. Please note that the cost of vehicle entry to the parkland (£7 per vehicle) is not included in the cost of the Day Trip and must be booked online in advance or paid on arrival on the day.
- Beautiful autumn colours at Tatton Park
- Magnificent Red Deer during their autumn rut
