Summary

The African Wild Dog, or Painted Dog as it is also known, used to roam much of Sub-Saharan Africa from Egypt to South Africa’s Cape. Today they are classified as ‘Endangered’ by the IUCN and their number has been reduced to a mere 6,000 or so individuals scattered across the last remaining wild corners of the continent. Fortunately, however, Botswana still retains a healthy and stable population and on this 11-day safari – which includes six nights of mobile camping – we will explore the fringes of the wonderful Okavango Delta in search of this iconic canid in the company of a Wild Dog researcher and conservationist. Sandwiched between a night in Maun (the so-called ‘Gateway to the Okavango Delta’) at the start and end, we will split our time between the Mababe Concession and Moremi Game Reserve in search of Wild Dogs and a wealth of other African wildlife including Lion, Cheetah, Elephant. Southern Giraffe, Martial Eagle, Wattled Crane, Southern Carmine Bee-eater and much, much more!

What's Included?

Food

All food is included in the cost of the holiday, except for lunches and dinners in Maun.

Accommodation

For our nights in Maun we use a comfortable tourist hotel, each room having private facilities. For six nights of this holiday we will be camping in private mobile wilderness safari camps. Each tent is equipped with a camp bed, bedding and a private 'bush bathroom' with toilet and bucket shower. For more information please refer to the detailed tour itinerary.
