Summary
With an estimated population of 500 Eurasian Lynx, Estonia is a country that can provide a realistic opportunity for mammal-seeking enthusiasts to observe this highly elusive yet enigmatic cat, the Eurasian Lynx. Matsalu National Park and Lahemaa National Park in the north of Estonia will be our base for this 8-day holiday. At Lahemaa we stay in the heart of the park, therefore affording us plentiful opportunities to go on spotlighting sessions in the ancient forests where this incredible feline roams. Sessions during the early morning, early evening, and through the night into the early hours will provide us with the very best chances of locating a Lynx. During the day, when the chance of a lynx encounter is much lower, we hope to find the many birds that reside here, including up to six species of woodpecker. The picturesque capital city of Tallinn, is highly recommended for a cultural extension.

Grading
Grade A/B - In March, expect very cold conditions, long nights and slow walking on snow. This tour is dedicated to finding the elusive Eurasian Lynx, therefore, expect long nights into the early hours to find one. The use of thermal image cameras will help aid in the search of our quarry, but even with this, sightings are never guaranteed. In 2024, two Lynx were seen exceptionally well. If you have your own thermal camera, it's worth taking it with you.
