It was our first trip to India and my husbands reservations were very quickly dispelled. Our time in New Delhi was excellent and well organised. Satpura Jungle Retreat and National Park was also excellent and a lovely place to stay, the staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The hot water bottles in the bed at night and in the jeeps along with the blankets on early morning game drives were much appreciated. The game drives were well organised and always very enjoyable. Even though we didn't see a tiger we saw a large variety of other wildlife including a wolf. The whole holiday was very enjoyable and we would like to visit India again.

Grading
This is a mammal and birdwatching tour, and accordingly the walking is graded A (easy). Unlike any other wildlife tour, it focuses on a lengthy study of one National Park, and avoids the tiring travelling that is a necessary component of some more typical wildlife tours in India which journey to one park after another. The peaceful location for this holiday in India is the scenic Satpura National Park, a little-known Tiger Reserve in the remote uplands of central India. Leopard, Sloth Bear, Dhole (Asian Wild Dog), Gaur and Indian Giant Squirrel are amongst the wealth of mammal species to be seen here, while Indian Skimmer, Bar-headed Goose, Grey Junglefowl, and both Red and Painted Spurfowl are just a few of the birds we may see amongst an abundance of wetland and forest species. Best of all, you will have a week to relax at one of India’s finest jungle retreats, Reni Pani, an especially comfortable wildlife lodge occupying a tranquil forest location — its lovely swimming pool, well-stocked library and charming cottage rooms are perfect for relaxation. Satpura is one of India’s best kept wildlife secrets — the ideal holiday destination for anyone wishing to peacefully immerse themselves amongst the wildlife and forests of Rudyard Kipling’s ‘Jungle Book’. It is a wildlife destination, more than any other in India, that allows an escape from the country’s more typical frenetic style … and Satpura is the only Tiger Reserve offering a choice of walking safaris, jeep rides and boat rides into the park each day. While we will offer one excursion per day (generally in the morning), you may choose an optional evening safari should you not wish to relax, potter or swim at the lodge each afternoon.

"I’d recommend our Tiger Marathon tour, which takes you straight into the heart of the jungle on a 13-day safari that combines Pench, Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Panna National Parks, four of India's finest reserves. Since we began the tour we've had 100% sightings! Alternatively, our Tiger Direct itinerary encompasses less travel and also has 100% success rate.”
