Summary

Our visit to Lithuania, the southernmost of the Baltic States, coincides with the peak of autumn migration. The country is located along the Baltic Flyway, with many migrants taking time to rest and feed up before continuing their journey. We will explore the Nemunas Delta, before crossing to the extraordinary Curonian Spit, a long, narrow (up to 3.8km wide) neck of land between the Baltic and the huge (1,619km2) freshwater Curonian Lagoon. Many migrants fly over or stop off on the spit - over the course of day it's possible to see thousands of birds overhead, all heading south for the winter. From here we'll then travel to the south of the country where Common Crane gather and ancient woods provide habitat for woodpecker and other forest birds.

  • Thousands of migrating geese, wildfowl, waders, raptors and passerines along the Baltic Flyway.
  • Explore Lithuania’s famous Nemunas Delta and Curonian Spit.
  • Gatherings of White-tailed Eagle.
  • Visit ringing stations that monitor the migration.
  • 7 species of woodpecker possible.
  • Enjoy some of Europe’s ancient woodlands.
  • Experience Common Cranes coming in to roost
  • Led by expert naturalist guides.
