The variety of wildlife, the stunning scenery and the opportunity to take some amazing photos. The location of the accommodation, the accommodation itself and the evening meals were excellent. Included a great mixture of eagles and otters and many other birds which suited me very well, together with the stunning scenery and trips to Iona, Staffa and Lunga. I enjoyed the packed itinerary so much I did not want to leave! I found it very helpful that on the only wet morning we had, we sat together as a group with Oliver discussing all things camera and photo related. Oliver was very knowledgeable about the bird and wildlife and was able to spot and identify species at long (and close) distances which was ideal for this comparative novice. He was very helpful offering assistance with camera settings and positioning prior to a shoot so we could get the most out of each wildlife encounter. He was enthusiastic and encouraging and tried hard to meet all of our needs and wishes. Oliver played a huge part in making this trip such a pleasure and delight for me, so thank you.

We were able to take photographs that we did not think were possible.
S.K. Warwickshire, Apr 2024 -
The week's holiday was primarily a photography trip to the Isle of Mull. We took several boat trips to see White Tailed Eagles and to visit Iona, Staffa and Lunga as well as pre-breakfast searches for otters around the loch. The holiday was not of the relaxing kind but instead was jam packed with sights and learning that was thoroughly enjoyable. The group was small and sociable, the hotel was perfect for my needs with friendly staff and the transport between outings efficient and comfortable. When the weather was unkind, we had plenty to keep us occupied. I loved every minute and could have stayed longer. I have used Naturetrek many times over the last decade or more. Not everything has been plain sailing on each trip due to cancellations of flights and indeed, whole holidays, due to strikes etc. but on each occasion Naturetrek has been on the other end of the phone quickly and with excellent advice. The service I have received has been excellent which is why I continue to book with them for peace of mind. I usually travel with my husband but on this occasion I went on my own and felt very able to do that knowing the company as I do, and I felt safe and looked after throughout. Naturetrek staff are personable, good humoured and knowledgeable and their trips well thought out.

I had an amazing time with Naturetrek in Mull and managed to get some pictures under their guidance that I could only have dreamt of before. Let alone sharing the great experience of seeing some amazing wildlife in fantastic care and company. Naturetrek have always been amazing for every trip I have travelled on. Not only that they provide one to one care especially proven with the recent travel issues which have affected many people in different ways. But they have been thoroughly accommodating to help in any way possible to ensure no disappointment with travel plans. They have also provided so much care and attention with private itinerary plans to get the most out of my travels.

Tour Leader: Oliver Smart
Following a childhood fascination with the natural world, Oliver went on to study ornithology at the University of Birmingham during his mid-twenties. Alongside an emerging interest in photography, learning the art of bird ringing and volunteering for the Avon Wildlife Trust, BTO and RSPB, Oliver has put time to good use. His main passion is birds and through photography he has built a diverse collection of imagery, which is represented by both RSPB Images and Alamy. Combined with a desire to travel, Oliver has explored many parts of the world; his favourite destinations usually including a seabird colony or two, where the sight, sound, smell and opportunities for a photographer are second to none. His claim to fame to date though is an image he took in the Seychelles which has been used on a bank note!

Tour Leader: Mick Durham
Mick trained as an English and Outdoor Education teacher and spent much of his working life teaching a range of activities such as mountaineering and climbing, canoeing, orienteering and camping in a local authority centre in North Wales. When not working he spent much of his time watching and photographing wildlife. He moved to Scotland over 25-years ago and has continued with his photography, concentrating on Scottish wildlife. Since retiring he has worked as a guide leading wildlife photography groups abroad and guiding wildlife groups in Scotland. In 2013 he gained his Fellowship with the Royal Photographic Society and is currently the Chair of the Natural History Distinctions Panel responsible for assessing Associate and Fellowship submissions.
Although interested in all kinds of wildlife, Mick is particularly keen on photographing wildlife in cold climates and also the wildlife found throughout Scotland. In particular he is passionate about Scottish coastal Otters and he has been observing and photographing these enigmatic creatures since he first visited Mull in 1988.
