From the time of arrival to the time of departure all our plans were fulfilled. We went to a good variety of interesting birding sites and saw everything that was there to be seen. Our guide (Brian Small) was brilliant. He knew all the places to go and ensured each one of us had the best experience. I loved it all.

Summary
Norfolk is often touted as the UK’s premier birding county. The marshes, wet meadows and woodlands that line its northern coastline are justly famous for the sheer variety and number of birds they attract throughout the year. In the autumn, especially if the wind is blowing from the east, an exciting range of waders, waterfowl and passerines – including regular rarities – stop to rest and feed here, while, in winter months, vast flocks of geese, ducks and wild swans may be seen. On this 3-day break we will take in the best of Norfolk’s autumnal birding highlights, including visits to such iconic reserves as Cley, Titchwell and Snettisham.
- Enjoy a ‘wader spectacular’ at Snettisham (dependant on tide height and time)
- Visit north Norfolk’s iconic reserves such as Titchwell and Cley
- Waders such as Knot, Golden Plover, Curlew Sandpiper & Little Stint
- Migrating chats, thrushes, warblers & finches
- Chance of something rarer such as Yellow-browed Warbler or Wryneck
- Look for migrants in Holkham Woods
- Enjoy movements of seaduck, skuas & other birds
- Led by expert Naturetrek naturalist

Mike and Megan were both excellent Guides and we would love to be with them again. They both tried to give us as much information as they could. Their knowledge of birds was superb. We loved this trip particularly all the amazing birds at Snettisham. Think the perfect weather did help the whole experience!

Brilliant leaders who knew where to take us and when. The hotel was really good. It was all over too quickly. Next time I'll choose a longer holiday!

Toby was an excellent tour leader, readily answering questions and explaining the various birds to look for. Nothing was too much trouble. A knowledgeable and sharp eyed leader.

Visited excellent places for seeing birds. Our guides were brilliant, showed us what they could and pointed out different birds and how to tell some birds apart. Had very good room in the hotel, staff looked after us very well, food very good. Naturetrek personnel are always polite, considerate, efficient and ready to help.

We had a wonderful bird-watching holiday staying in an excellent hotel in Hunstanton. The guides were superb at spotting and identifying all the birds and also teaching us spotting techniques. They set their scopes on individual birds, so that we could all have a close-up view, which was very helpful. Another good feature was that the itinerary was changed to fit in with the conditions. Seeing an estimated 96,000 knot flying to and fro over us and forming patterns in the sky was amazing. This was our first trip with Naturetrek and we were very impressed with the quality of information sent and their organisation of the tour. We couldn't have had better guides.

Day 1 I had a wonderful lifetime memory forever. Up very early to get to Snetisham coast just as light was coming up and the tide was coming in, to max. 40,000 Knots or more (wader birds) swirling in the sky coming over our heads in vast numbers again and again, plus hundreds of Oyster Catchers. Numerous other birds seen at close range and through binoculars for the two days. Excellent arrangements and organisation. Enjoyed the hotel. Easy booking with Naturetrek and summary bird list & experience sent afterwards.

Tour Leader: John Williamson
Born in Norfolk, John has been birdwatching in the county for almost 40 years. He is currently the county liaison with the British Birds Rare Breeding Birds Panel, and has been involved in the production of the Norfolk Bird & Mammal Report for over 25 years. More recently John has worked in wildlife conservation for over 15 years filling various roles with RSPB, Natural England and Norfolk Wildlife Trust. John has also travelled quite extensively to over 20 countries, many of which were visited on birdwatching or wildlife trips. His experience gained working within Norfolk on breeding shorebird protection along the North Norfolk coast from Scot Head Island to Stiffkey Binks for Natural England (including several years working on the Holkham Estate NNR), on monitoring CAP agri-environment schemes and barn owl projects with RSPB, and operating wildlife watertrails on boats at Hickling Broad NNR and at Ranworth Broad nature reserves for Norfolk Wildlife Trust means he has acquired a broad knowledge of the fauna and flora of the county. John also has his own environmental consultancy and has been working on a long-term bird monitoring scheme (15 years to date) in operation on a lowland organic mixed farm in North-west Norfolk. His interests extend to all forms of natural history but John also has an extensive understanding of the past history of Norfolk and is particularly well-versed in the areas of Broadland, North and North-west Norfolk.
