Summary
This exhilarating 11-day holiday to Ohio and Michigan to witness the astonishing migration of the brightly coloured American wood warblers, as well as countless other species, will rank as one of the best bird migration experiences! Situated within the Great Lakes, the shores here are the perfect resting areas for many incredible birds which have travelled thousands of miles from Central and South America to breed further north in Canada. Such highlights will include the Blackburnian and Magnolia Warblers, which are just two of perhaps 25 species of warbler that should be seen feeding only metres away as we watch in awe. Birding in these two states is relaxed as birds are abundant, and as we explore a variety of habitats, we expect to find a plethora of thrushes, woodpeckers, finches, sparrows, chats, jays, terns and gulls.
We will then head north into Michigan to hopefully find the very rare Kirtland's Warbler, and then visit a small park to watch the incredible Evening Grosbeaks at some feeders. The shores of Lake Michigan are also the breeding site for the endangered Piping Plover, and we will seek to view this enchanting wading bird.
This 2-centre holiday will be based in well located and comfortable hotels. The pace will be gentle and the birdwatching will be enjoyable, while photographic opportunities will be superb!
