To have such an expert leader for this trip was amazing and just shows how important it is to have someone with a local knowledge, experience, and techniques to be able to view the wildlife in and along the River Wye. A fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyable.

Summary
Join river enthusiast and wildlife cameraman Jack Perks to enjoy the wildlife both above and below the surface of the River Wye. Exploring one of the most beautiful stretches of river in the Peak District, we’ll be following its banks for species like Dipper, Water Voles, Goosander, Brown and Rainbow Trout and possibly Grayling too. There is also a lot of hidden wildlife below the water and Jack will be bringing along a dip net, with time spent catching and identifying some of the smaller and hidden residents like stoneflies, mayflies, caddisflies, and with luck, also Brook Lamprey and Bullheads. Jack will provide a tank to photograph our catch. We’ll head into Bakewell for one of its tasty and must have Bakewell puddings around lunchtime before heading back out to the river in the afternoon to continue our explorations to enjoy anything we may come across, while appreciating our beautiful surroundings.
Meeting time is 9am and finishing at 3pm.

Tour Leader: Jack Perks
Jack is a Nottinghamshire based professional underwater photographer and camera operator having worked for Springwatch, The One Show and presented on Countryfile. Jack has won awards in Underwater Photographer of the year and British wildlife photography awards for his work and has been teaching photography at both Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham for the last seven years.
Although Jack is passionate about all nature subjects, fish are certainly centre stage for him having written three books on them including 'Freshwater Fishes of Britain'. He’s also the first and only person to film every species of freshwater fish in Britain a project taking over seven years, traveling all over the UK, to complete. Jack has dived, swam and pond dipped in almost every corner of the British Isles looking for its aquatic wildlife.
In addition to this, Jack hosts the successful nature podcast 'The Bearded Tit’s Podcast' where he interviews wildlife presenters, camera ops and scientists about the work they do. Jack has guided and ran nature tours both abroad and in the UK, and looks forward to sharing his passion for little-known wildlife on Naturetrek tours.
